2026 Speedway Opener - 06/06/26

A great night of racing to kick off the 2026 season, with 60+ cars entered for the evening. Perfect weather - well, if you like cold, I guess. Got down to 14C by the end, and we're not used to that here in the tropics!

New cars, new drivers, new paint schemes, not to mention two new classes - the Modlites making an appearance and impressing, and Production Sedans racing in Cairns for the first time. The Proddies are a class that Junior Sedan drivers who 'age out' can move into without spending huge sums of money or giving up altogether.

We found a few things that didn't quite work the way we wanted (as did quite a few of the drivers and crews!) but that's what this event is for - chuck it all out there and see what happens before our two big upcoming meetings, the Northern Nationals for Modified Sedans to be run over four nights later this month, then followed by Thunder in the Canefields for 360-LS Sprintcars, also to run over four nights in late July / early August.

There's a software problem I am trying to fix - the thumbnails for all the photos are not showing. The photos are there, but it gets a short way in and then stops loading the thumbnail.
