Thunder in the Canefields #4 - 10 August 2024

Final night of "Thunder in the Canefields" 2024 for the 360-LS Sprintcars. A few mild sprinkles of rain early in the program, not enough to make much difference except during Sprintcar Hot Laps.

The Formula 400s (little things with no wings) joined the program for Saturday night, and produced some hard racing. Those things are quick!

Super Street Sedans ran again, and the next event at the Speedway will be centred around them - "Havoc in the Paddock" on September 14th, so book the date for a fun night of cars that you will never find on the showroom floor. These guys stuff V6s and V8s into almost anything - their major restriction is that they have to run a specified tyre size and type. It is definitely possible to have too much power!

The main part of the evening though was dedicated to the Sprintcars, and they didn't disappoint. Not only were the evening prizes up for grabs, but also the coveted "Thunder in the Canefields" cane knife trophies. In the end, Thunder was decided by a single point, with local Brodie Davis taking the #1 spot from Brendan Guerin, who had made the trip up from Broken Hill, while the win on the night went to Ryan Farrell from Western Australia (who is also the Queensland champion). It was great to see all the visiting drivers, and we hope that will increase next year - a strong Victorian contingent wanted to get away from their weather and although a couple of days were a bit ordinary, they had a great time visiting the local area.

So that concludes "Thunder" for 2024, and we are already planning for "Thunder" 2025...
