Will it or won't it? Rain... It looked like it was going to, and it had during the week interfering with track preparation (our devoted crew finished around 11.30pm Friday night) and then -- nothing. Track stayed dry throughout the night, as did the spectators, and we saw some very good racing.
The Cairns weather radar is not operational at the moment, so we were guessing and tried to get through everything as quickly as possible. The competitors mostly helped, it was probably not until event 7 or 8 that we even saw a yellow flag. There were a couple of majors through the night, but we would suggest that the spectators went home happy.
Next event on the calendar is the big one for the year -- Friday and Saturday night of Round 2, "Thunder in the Canefields", our annual event for Sprintcars which starts in Mareeba for two nights and then moves to Cairns for the conclusion of the series. Looking forward to that - one Sprintcar is already here!
